About me

God radically reoriented my life in my early twenties. Since then knowing God has been the organizing priority of my life.

For the past twenty years, I’ve been serving in ministry, first with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, then planting Open Home Church in Seattle with Foursquare, and now as Associate Director of Spiritual Formation at Bethany Community Church.

I love creating spaces of radical acceptance that make room for brave vulnerability. I love exploring Scripture with curious minds. I love helping people learn to listen for the voice of God.

Life in the Cloud is my first book — unless you count the horrible philosophy manuscript I attempted in my early twenties. Which we shouldn’t.

What do I do for fun?

I’m a standard-issue Seattle white guy: Blundstones, Subaru, local breweries, mountain runs, and snowboarding whenever there’s actually snow.

But I’ve also danced with Prince William, sat atop a light pole arguing with a British police officer that he couldn’t possibly be real because his hat was too cute, and spent a night in jail after agreeing to throw eggs on the steps of the state capitol as a “birthday present” from a friend.

I love staying up late trying to get to the bottom of things with friends. I love hearing my daughters gibbering in the distance while my wife and I watch the sunset with a glass of wine. I used to love morning dance parties with my girls, now that they’re too cool for that, I dance with our golden retriever instead.

I would love to partner with your community

I’d be down to come teach, preach, or lead a workshop (for free!) if it would serve your Church or community.
